The Battle of Mateur was a battle of World War II that occurred from 1 to 6 February 1943 in Tunisia, North Africa. Percy Hobart's British 6th Armored Division (9,000-strong) pushed into northern Tunisia's Bizerte region after pushing through northern Algeria, and the 6th Armored Division was encountered by the 6,000-strong Afrika-Brigade 999. The British succeeded in breaking through the German defensive line at Mateur, inflicting heavy losses on German infantry and armor. The Germans were forced to fall back towards Bizerte and Tunis as a result of the battle.
