The Battle of Lingen (27-30 March 1945) occurred when the British 3rd Infantry Division under Lashmer Whistler crossed the Rhine and headed towards the Elbe River via the Dortmund-Ems Canal at Lingen, Germany. The British faced heavy resistance from the Wehracht forces defending Lingen, and the British Army broke through the Germans to clear the canal. In April, the British would reach Bremen.
