The Battle of Kurakhove occurred in the autumn of 2024 when the Russian Army attempted to capture the city of Kurakhove in Donetsk Oblast from its Ukrainian defenders.

In August-September 2024, the Russian forces that had broken through towards Pokrovsk regrouped north, south, and east of Kurakhove, attempting to encircle the Ukrainian troops there. The Ukrainians failed to prepare ample defensive positions at Kurakhove as they had done at Chasiv Yar, and the Russians captured Hirnyk on 29 October and Kurakhivka on 2 November. By 14 November, Russia concentrated 70,000 troops from the 41st Guards Combined Arms Army and the 51st Guards Combined Arms Army against Kurakhove, and their forces fought their way into the city on 26 November, facing heavy resistance. The Russians captured the city in late December 2024 and took the Kurakhove Power Station by 10 January 2025, by then, Ukraine's 15,000-strong garrison in the city had been suffering an average of 150-180 casualties a day. However, fighting would continue in the Kurakhove sector for weeks.
