The Battle of Koydanava was fought on 8 June 1655 between the armies of Poland-Lithuania and Sweden during The Deluge.
June of 1655 saw Poland launch a series of counterattacks against the invading Swedish armies, reclaiming Lublin and Zbarazh. Poland's armies then marched north towards Minsk, also occupied by Sweden, and met Ratsherr Fabian von Wersen's army southwest of the city at Koydanava (present-day Dzyarzhynsk). In the ensuing battle, the Swedish reiters charged into action first, and they were overwhelmed by the numerically and militarily superior Polish cavalry. By the time the Swedish infantry arrived, their cavalry counterparts had been put to the sword, and the Polish cavalry easily overwhelmed Von Wersen's footsoldiers. Only 2 Poles were killed during the defeat of the Swedish army, which limped back towards Minsk.
