The Battle of Incheon occurred in 1907 when the Imperial Japanese Army confronted and defeated a Korean "Righteous Army" at Incheon during its march on Seoul. Yi In-yeong massed 10,000 troops to liberate Seoul, and his army came within 7.45 miles of the capital before facing a counterattack by 20,000 Japanese soldiers backed up by warships moored near Incheon. The Righteous Army was forced to retreat, and the war would rage on for two more years, costing the Righteous Army 17,000 dead and 33,000 wounded.
