The Battle of Half Moon Bay was a series of naval battles fought between the pirate captain Edward Kenway and the British Royal Navy - and briefly involving the Spanish Navy and pirate hunters - off northern Jamaica's Half Moon Bay in 1722 during the Golden Age of Piracy.
After resting in Kingston, Kenway traveled overland to Fort Charlotte and launched the Jackdaw for a new round of plundering. He quickly took notice of a heavy British naval presence off Long Bay near Half Moon Bay, and battle began when he attacked the man o' war HMS Odin, her frigate escort HMS Experiment, and her brig escorts HMS Devastation and HMS Success. This battle inaugurated a series of naval encounters in which Kenway destroyed the first squadron, only to come across more British ships as they patrolled Jamaican waters. During the ensuing series of battles, he boarded, plundered, and scuttled the British men o' war HMS Odin, HMS Rapture, HMS Speedwell, HMS Antigua, HMS Princes Galley, and HMS Neptune; the British frigates HMS Experiment, HMS Portsmouth, HMS Royal James, HMS Furious, and the British brigs HMS Devastation, HMS Success, and HMS Triumph. During the fighting, the Spanish man o' war Estrella del Mar veered into British waters and began a gunnery duel with HMS Speedwell and HMS Antigua, enabling Kenway and the Jackdaw to attack and destroy the distracted British ships before ultimately destroying the Spanish warship and a Spanish sloop that had also violated British territorial waters. After devastating the imperial navies, Kenway also destroyed the pirate hunter brig Blessed Cristina, and he decided to rest after hours of wreaking havoc.
