The Battle of Gibeon was a battle fought between the Israelites and Amorites during Joshua's conquest of Canaan in 1405 BC.

The large city of Gibeon had made peace with the invading Israelites, resulting in King Adonizedek of Jebus, Hoham of Hebron, Piram of Jarmuth, Japhia of Lachish, and Debir of Eglon forming an alliance against Gibeon and the Israelites. The Gibeonites appealed to Joshua for aid, and Joshua went up from Gilgal with his entire army to face the army of the five kings. Joshua's army took up positions on the slope of Beth-horon, waiting until sunrise before surprising the Amorites. The Amorites were blinded by the sun and were slaughtered, with the Israelites throwing huge stones down on them as far as Azekah; more died from the hailstones than from the sword. The five kings were forced to flee to the cave at Makkedah, and Joshua ordered that his men roll great stones against the mouth of the cave to imprison the rulers. The survivors of the Amorite armies fled to the fortified towns, and Joshua later had the kings released, having his men put their feet on the kings' necks. He then had all five men hung from trees, and they were buried in the same cave. Joshua proceeded to take Makkedah that same day, killing its king and slaughtering its citizens to a man. Libnah soon followed, and King Horam of Gezer and his entire army were massacred by the Israelites while attempting to aid Lachish. From Lachish, Joshua passed on with all Israel to Eglon, taking the city that same day and massacring every person in it. Debir followed, and its king was hanged. These victories left the whole of the hill country, Negev, lowland, and slopes in the hands of the Israelites.
