The Battle of Geel occurred from 8 to 23 September 1944 when two divisions of the British Army advanced towards Antwerp, Belgium during the offensives against the Siegfried Line during the autumn of 1944. Two British infantry division spearheaded the assault, with armored forces coming up behind the infantry to assist in the assault on Geel. German fallschirmjaegers and Jagdpanther tank destroyers launched assaults on the British forces in the town, inflicting heavy losses on the British, but the British proceeded to inflict heavy losses on the Germans during one of their attacks, and the Germans abandoned the town several times. On 13 September 1944, the British occupied Geel with little resistance, but the Scottish soldiers of the British Army were held back at the Ten Aard bridgehead by heavy German counterattacks. It would not be until 23 September 1944 that the bridgehead was secured.
