The Battle of Flavion (October 1944) was a four-day battle that occurred when French Army forces liberated the Belgian border town of Flavion from the German Wehrmacht. The battle occurred as French forces cleared several towns along the Meuse River of German control; they took Hastiere, Dinant, and Givet in the same offensive. Three days into the offensive, Flavion was embattled, as the French had struggled to take Philipville due to heavy resistance. By the fourth day, they had secured all of their objectives along the river, and they had also taken the town of Flavion. The German 1st Panzer Division attempted to retake the town, but the French held them off, forcing them to retreat to Namur as they advanced and took their former base of Ciney. Flavion was yet another Allied success during an offensive along the Meuse late in 1944.
