The Battle of Escalera (Spanish: Batalla de Escalera) was fought between the rebelling population of Escalera lead by Abraham Reyes and the Mexican authoritarian regime led by Agustin Allende. The city of Escalera was already suffering from harsh rule even before the revolution; the main cause of revolution in Nuevo ParaĆso is because of Allende's iron grip over the inhabitants of the region. John Marston found the city's army garrison oppressing the civilian population, setting up firing squads and randomly beating up the inhabitants of the city. Reyes was also held captive by the Mexican Army and was found being punched back and forth by 3 Mexican soldiers, one of whom was Raul Zubieta, an aide-de-camp of Allende. This battle was a part of the Mexican Revolution during the end of the Wild West era.

The battle for the city began when Reyes was rescued by Marston and with the death of Zubieta, whom Marston killed in a duel. The Mexican Army was eventually overwhelmed by the rebelling inhabitants and the armory was taken, allowing Reyes and his new rebel forces to gather enough weapons to seize the city. Prisoners we're also freed who then pledged their allegiance to Reyes and the revolution, allowing them to finally storm the palace in Escalera.

A massive firefight then followed as the Rebel Army attempted to take the palace in the upper portion of the city. The Mexican Army was able to deliver severe casualties against the Rebel forces but was too overwhelmed and lacked the manpower to hold back, eventually being annihilated. The Mexican Army ordered several counter-attacks to retake the palace but was unsuccessful.

Allende was able to escape just in time before Reyes and his men entered the palace and began their search, only to find that he wasn't there and left with a carriage along with Bill Williamson, another former member of the Van der Linde Gang whom Marston kills. Allende was also killed in the process, ending the Mexican Revolution in Nuevo Paraiso and allowing for Reyes to establish his revolutionary government and eventually take control.
