The Battle of Elinion was a battle of the Peloponnesian War which was fought in Pephka in 424 BC.
In the aftermath of the Spartan victory at the Battle of Seuthenimahos in Corinth, the Athenian-led Delian League controlled only the Athenian capital region of Attica, Phocis in central Greece, the Hephaistos Islands in the northern Aegean, and Pephka on the eastern half of Crete. The Spartan mercenary Kassandra traveled to Crete to aid the Spartans in pressing their offensive against Athens and conquering the whole of the island. After Kassandra infiltrated Fort Lato and assassinated the Knossian ruler Kebriones the Resolute, the Spartans launched their invasion of Pephka from Messara in the east. Kassandra was hired to serve as Sparta's champion, while the Athenians hired the rival mercenary Thrasyllos the Fearful. In the ensuing battle, Kassandra slew Thrasyllos, 7 Athenian captains, and 23 soldiers, aiding the Spartans in crushing the Athenian defenders and capturing the region for the Peloponnesian League. This setback for Cleon reduced Athens to controlling just one territory in the Aegean and only two regions on the Greek mainland.
