The Battle of Dagda (20-22 June 1944) occurred when the Soviet Red Army advanced into eastern Latvia during Operation Bagration, and 18,000 Soviet troops under Andrei Yeremenko attacked the German-held town of Dagda. The Soviets managed to secure the town after two days of fighting, and the Soviet victory allowed for the Pskov Offensive to expand into Latvia; the Latgale Offensive was opened.
