The Battle of Creully was fought between the Anglo-Canadian Allies and the German defenders of Creully, Normandy during Operation Overlord.
On the afternoon on 6 June 1944, Company D of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles advanced towards the village of Creully, supported by three Sherman tanks from the 1st Hussars. The Canadians attacked the German positions along the Seulles while support by armor, and the 6th Battalion of the British Green Howards reinforced them as they secured the town. The Canadians were then able to head for the village of Lantheuil, and the BBC installed a radio transmitter at the Creullet castle, where Bernard Montgomery set up his headquarters from 7 to 22 June.
