The Battle of Chernykhivtsi was fought on 13 June 1655 during the Deluge when a Polish-Lithuanian army under Colonel Jerzy Halecki destroyed a Swedish army under Ratsherr Nilson Kagg on the outskirts of Zbarazh in Galicia.
Following the defeat of King Charles X Gustav of Sweden's army at the Battle of Kretivtsi, Ratsherr Nilson Kagg's army - which had also been approaching Zbarazh - was left isolated and was soon attacked by Colonel Jerzy Halecki's Polish army. Jerzy Wisniewski and his mercenary company joined the battle, and the superiority of Poland's cavalry carried the day. The Swedish reiters were overwhelmed and their Scottish and Swedish footsoldiers ridden down; 19 Poles were slain, while the entire Swedish force lay dead or wounded after the battle. Sweden's defeat saved Zbarazh from Swedish reconquest and shifted both nations' focus north to the Poland-Belarus borderlands.
