The Battle of Chasiv Yar was a battle of the Russo-Ukrainian War that was fought from 6 April 2024.

Chasiv Yar became a front-line city following the Russian capture of Bakhmut on 20 May 2023, with Ukrainian forces managing to stabilize the frontline and push Russian forces back along the flanks of Bakhmut during the 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive. After the conclusion of the Battle of Avdiivka in February 2024, Russian forces restarted assault efforts from western Bakhmut towards Chasiv Yar. In late February 2024, Russian commanders used human wave tactics involving Storm-Z and Storm-V convict units, which lost 60% of their armored support to Ukrainian artillery. Russia concurrently prepared a new concerted effort to capture Chasiv Yar, having tested the city's weaknesses with prior limited raids. On 23 March, the Russian Army captured Ivanivske, which was followed up with Russian shelling throughout the month. On 4 April, the Russian Army launched its first direct armed assault on the city, supported by Su-25 close air support. By 6 April, the situation in the city was dangerous, as nearly every building was destroyed. The Chasiv Yar garrison suffered from shortages in artillery and anti-air ammunition due to political gridlock in the United States, and the city was soon threatened with urban combat operations.

Over the next several months, Ukraine repelled several Russian armored attacks against Chasiv Yar, and the city's garrison brigades were reinforced with ammunition, drones, and electronic warfare equipment in mid-April. Russian military leadership tasked its troops with capturing Chasiv Yar by 9 May, Victory Day, and up to 25,000 Russian troops assaulted Chasiv Yar in late April. In June, the Russians pushed into the city and captured the Kanal district by 3 July. By early August, most of Chasiv Yar's citizens evacuated as the city's water, electricity, and gas were cut off. In October, the Russians breached the city's defensive line and pushed into the city center by 15 November.
