The Battle of Breslau (late August 1805) was a battle of the Napoleonic Wars that occurred when a Prussian army of 840 troops under Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia and General Gebhard von Blucher besieged the city of Breslau in Silesia, which was defended by 1,232 French troops under Emperor Napoleon I himself. The French formed a large vee shape in order to fire on the Prussians from two sides, luring them into a killzone; their regiments were decimated by volleys of musketry and cannon fire. Both of the Prussian commanders were wounded in the battle, and their army was shattered. The Prussians were forced to retreat back towards Brandenburg, and the French prepared to march north and defeat the Prussians on German soil.
