The Battle of Beaumont-Hague occurred on 14 July 1944 when the US 2nd Ranger Battalion secured the village of Beaumont-Hague in northern France's Normandy region from the Wehrmacht. The US Army Rangers faced heavy resistance upon entering the town, and they found themselves clearing out the village house-by-house and street-by-street. The Wehrmacht later launched a major counterattack against the American forces, and the Americans would hold onto the town after a spirited defense, with US snipers on a grain silo picking off German mortar crews and advancing infantrymen. The arrival of M4 Sherman tanks allowed for the Americans to consolidate their gains, forcing the Germans out of the town.
