The Battle of Anctoville occurred on 12 June 1944 when the British 7th Armored Division assaulted the German-held crossroads in the village of Anctoville, Normandy with the goal of destroying a communications post and allowing for the 7th Armored Division to move its tanks further into France. The British forces pushed through the German forces after fighting them for every street and house in the village, securing the village after heavy fighting. Captain Humphrey Price's squad repelled six German counterattacks against the barn which the squad had captured from the Germans, and the Royal Air Force destroyed the German tank which arrived to assist the German infnatry in their failed attack. With the German counterattacks repelled, the British forces rallied at the crossroads, from which they resumed their advance. The battle was linked to the nearby Battle of Caen, as it was part of the British breakthrough.
