The Battle of Akrona was a battle of the Peloponnesian War which was fought in Boeotia in 422 BC.
Despite the Athenian defeat at the Battle of Amphipolis, the death of the increasingly unpopular Athenian demagogue Cleon in battle resulted in a democratic restoration in Athens, and the mercenary Kassandra helped the Athenians reconquer Euboea and Argolis from Sparta in ensuing battles. However, the Athenians boldly invaded and conquered the Boeotian League, a major Spartan ally in central Greece, and Kassandra decided to help Sparta liberate Boeotia from the Delian League's occupation. Kassandra assassinated the pro-Athenian king Antidoros the Exalted at Plataea, weakening Athens' hold over Boeotia, enabling Sparta to send an army from Phocis to invade Boeotia. In the ensuing battle, Kassandra served as Sparta's champion, and she slew the Athenian champion Skiron the Enlightened Fisherman, 6 Athenian captains, and 25 soldiers, turning the tide in Sparta's favor. Sparta was able to rout the Athenians from the field and reoccupy the region, restoring Thebes' freedom.
