The Battle of Acciarella occurred on 24 January 1944 as the US 3rd Infantry Division broke out of the Anzio beachhead and launched an armored assault on the German-held village of Acciarella.
By 3:30 AM on 22 January 1944, leading elements of the American 30th Infantry Regiment reached the Nettuno-Acciarella road behind Red 1 beach and were preparing to advance on the regiment's initial objectives. A platoon of the 751st Tank Battalion was dispatched to reinforce the 30th Infantry Regiment, and, on 23-24 January, the 30th IR and 751st Tank Battalion set out to secure a beachhead while preparing for an expected German counterattack. The Americans advanced in the direction of the Colli Laziali, pushing past soldiers of the 29th Panzergrenadier Division and the Hermann Goering Division. The Americans were ultimately able to break through towards Cisterna, their next objective.
