The Battery Park construction site shootout occurred one afternoon in the spring of 2008 when Niko Bellic, a hired gun in the service of Playboy X, killed dozens of Messina crime family union workers at a construction site in Battery Park, Lower Manhattan, New York City. Playboy X sought to impress real estate developer Yusuf Amir, who owned the site; Amir faced union troubles that were spurred on by the Mafia, as the Mafia encouraged the workers to go on strike to squeeze some money from Amir. The union workers went on strike under the pretense of fighting for American jobs against foreign jobs, but they were actually armed mobsters. Playboy X supplied Bellic with several guns, including a sniper rifle, and Bellic killed several lookouts with the sniper rifle before moving in with an arsenal of weapons. Bellic lobbed grenades and gunned down several mobsters with an AK-47 assault rifle, and he killed the three union bosses at the construction site after an intense shootout with the heavily-armed mobsters. The aftermath of the shooting was unfavorable to Playboy, however; Amir decided to build a monument to commemorate the union workers who had been killed, and he did not form a partnership with Playboy X.
