Bat-Ochiryn Eldev-Ochir (1905-1937) was General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party from 30 January 1929 to 13 March 1930 (succeeding Olziin Badrakh and preceding Peljidiin Genden) and from 30 June to 30 July 1932 (succeeding Zolbingiin Shijee and preceding Jambyn Lkhumbe). He died in a car accident in 1937.
Biography[]
Bat-Ochiryn Eldev-Ochir was born in Zasagt, Mongolia in 1905, and he led a local youth cell of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party from 1922 to 1925 before the Comintern recruited him to assist fellow rural radicals in taking over the MPRP leadership from the old guard. In 1928, he orchestrated the removal of rightist leaders and the addition of leftist laders to the party leadership, and he supported Mongolia's rapid transition from democracy to socialism on the orders of the Soviet Union. In 1932, he survived the first purge of the MPRP leadership, as he was said to have criticized the party's rapid socialization of the Mongolian People's Republic. He continued to be involved with politics, and he supported the persecution of Buddhists. However, he died in a Moscow hospital in 1937 after falling from a moving vehicle during a hunting trip.
