Bassam Ayachi

Bassam Ayachi (1947-) was a Belgian-Syrian sheikh affiliated with Ahrar ash-Sham during the Syrian Civil War.

Biography[]

Bassam Ayachi was born in 1947 in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, Brussels, Belgium to a Muslim family. Becoming an imam, he became a leader of Islamic extremism in Belgium, and he headed to Syria to join Ahrar ash-Sham during the Syrian Civil War. Ayachi lost his arm when a bomb struck his car on 23 December 2015, but he remained in Syria and continued to spread his radical beliefs in Syria. On March 2018,Ayachi went to Turkey to get an arm,but he was arrested and imprisoned for ten days and deported to France. On March 28,2018,he was arrested in Northern France and charged with terrorism
