Barvechos is a Bolivian department located in the country's Altiplano region, with Barvechos serving as its capital. Barvechos was historically focused on silver exploration, llama breeding, and barley cultures, and the capital was home to many miners; Matico and Pucamayu were focused on agriculture. The Barvechos Plata Company operated a large silver mine, and the boss of this company befriended the Santa Blanca Cartel; this, together with the central position of Barvechos and the presence of an airport, caused cartel smuggling head Nidia Flores to settle there. The friendly accounting practices of Barvechos Plata and the Banco de Barvechos allowed Flores to launder the cartel gains, and she built a camp to house the millions of dollars passing through the province. During the Bolivian Drug War, the city of Barvechos became a stronghold of Kataris 26, and American special forces prevented the cartel from detonating a dirty bomb in the city in 2019 during Operation Kingslayer.
