Bartolome Martinez

Bartolome Martinez (24 August 1873-30 January 1936) was President of Nicaragua from 1923 to 1925, succeeding Rosendo Chamorro and preceding Carlos Jose Solorzano. He was a member of the Conservative Party of Nicaragua.

Biography[]

Bartolome Martinez was born in Jinotega, Nicaragua in 1873, and he managed his family's coffee and cattle businesses before entering politics as a Conservative Party of Nicaragua member. In 1922, Diego Manuel Chamorro was elected President, while Martinez was Vice-President. Chamorro died in 1923, and Martinez assumed office as president, serving out the remainder of his term. He supported nationalist policies during his brief tenure, and he was succeeded by the moderate conservative Carlos Jose Solorzano in 1925.
