Barranquillero was a Medellin Cartel associate who was responsible for managing Pablo Escobar's dealings with Amado Carrillo Fuentes and the Mexican Guadalajara Cartel during the 1980s. In 1985, he met Guadalajara associate Joaquin Guzman Loera, who promised Escobar that he could smuggle several tons of cocaine into Los Angeles in just two days. The plan worked out, increasing Guzman's standing in the criminal underworld.
