Barisan Nasional is a conservative and Malay nationalist political party in Malaysia, founded on 1 January 1973. The party was founded as a coalition of right-wing and centrist parties (including the United Malays National Organization and the Malaysian Chinese Association), and it dominated politics from 1974 to 2018, maintaining two-thirds majority of seats in the Dewan Rakyat for over thirty years. The alliance supported Malay nationalism (the spread of Malay culture across Malaysia), conservatism, and economic liberalism, favoring a free market.
