Baraa Kadek (died 27 May 2017), also known as Rayan Meshaal, was a Syrian journalist and Islamic State member who founded the Amaq News Agency in 2014. A member of ISIS since late 2013, he and seven others originally worked for the Halab News Agency before creating the news agency, which was named for a valley in Hatay Province, Turkey, where a hadith predicted that an apocalyptic victory over non-believers would be fought. Amaq served as a propaganda tool for ISIS, which used it to take credit for terrorist attacks or to publish footage of fighting. On 27 May 2017, he and his daughter were killed in a US airstrike on Mayadin in Deir ez-Zor Governorate.
