History[]
Baluchistan is a desert region that runs along the southern shoreline of Iran and Pakistan in the Persian Gulf's expansion into the Indian Ocean. Inhabited by the indigenous Baluchs, it had 388,669 people as of 1746. In 1738 it was conquered from the Persian Empire by the Maratha Confederacy, who spread Hinduism through the region. In 1750, the population grew to 431,158 people, with 81.7% Islam and 18.3% Hindus. Eventually, it was conquered by the United Kingdom, who made use of its subsistence farming and grain. It later was split between Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, and currently there is an insurgency in the region against Pakistan and Iran.
