The Balkans is a region of Southern Europe located along the Balkan Mountains. The Balkans include Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Albania, and Macedonia, with Slovenia, Romania, and Bulgaria usually being included in the region, while Greece and Turkey can also be included. The most conservative size of the Balkans coincides with a large population of southern Slavs, while Romania and Greece are inhabited by their own ethnic groups, not of Slavic origin.
