Bali-Bali restaurant shootout

The Bali-Bali restaurant shootout occurred at 10:00 PM on 17 November 1995 when a hit squad of Tijuana Cartel hitmen led by Ramon Arellano Felix attempted to kill Juarez Cartel boss Amado Carrillo Fuentes at the Bali-Bali restaurant in Mexico City, Mexico. Nearly a dozen assassins strode through the front door of the fashionable seafood restaurant carrying machine guns like briefcases, and they opened fire on Carrillo Fuentes after engaging in a shootout with his bodyguards in the parking lot and inside of the restaurant. Carrillo Fuentes and his wife were spirited out of the restaurant through the kitchen, but his bodyguard was shot as Carrillo Fuentes and his wife entered their getaway vehicle. They were driven to safety, and Carrillo Fuentes went into hiding. The shootout left Arellano Felix injured, and Conrado Higuera Sol warned Carrillo Fuentes that he was allowing for the other cartel bosses to grow too powerful, and that he was not accepted as the boss among the other drug lords.
