Baldwin V of Jerusalem (1177-2 August 1186) was the King of Jerusalem from 1185 to 1186, succeeding Baldwin IV of Jerusalem and preceding Guy de Lusignan.

Biography[]

Baldwin was born in 1177 to the House of Aleramicci, a dynasty of Catholic French. He was the son of William Longsword and Sibylla of Jerusalem, making him the nephew of King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem. In 1183, the dying leper Baldwin IV deposed Guy de Lusignan after he proved to be a weak commander, and he made Baldwin the co-king at the age of 5. Baldwin succeeded to the monarchy on 16 March 1185, but he was king for only one year before his death at a young age. A sickly child, he was only nine when he died. His uncle Guy succeeded him as king.
