The Satrapy of Baktria (or Bactria) was a client state of the Seleucid Empire, founded when Alexander the Great conquered the area from the Persian Empire in 330 BC. Alexander's general Seleucus got a cut of his territory, and Baktria became one of his largest satrapies. However, it was harassed, and eventually conquered, by the Parthian Empire. Its major cities were Maracanda, Bukhara, Eucratidea, and Baktria.
