Baha Abu al-Ata

Baha Abu al-Ata (25 November 1977-12 November 2019) was the military chief of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement during the 2010s. He was killed in an Israeli airstrike on 12 November 2019.

Biography[]

Baha Abu al-Ata was born in Shujaiyya, Gaza Strip in 1977, and he joined the al-Quds Brigades in 1990 and eventually rose to be the military chief of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement. He commanded the PIJ's efforts in the northern Gaza Strip and was responsible for missile attacks against the Israeli cities of Sderot and Ashdod in 2019. On 12 November 2019, he was killed by the Israeli Air Force in a targeted airstrike guided by Shin Bet operatives. His brother Muhammad Salim Hassan Abu al-Ata was killed two years later.
