Bagdasar Avakyan

Bagdasar Avakyan (1883-20 September 1918) was a Bolshevik revolutionary and one of the "26 Baku Commissars".

Biography[]

Bagdasar Avakyan was born in 1883 in Shushi, Russian Empire to an ethnically-Armenian family, and he was expelled from the Kharkov Veterinary School for his activism for the Bolshevik cause. He served as an ensign of the Imperial Russian Army in Baku during World War I, and he became one of the "26 Baku Commissars" after the Russian Revolution. In September 1918, he was captured by the British Army while fleeing the falling city, and he was executed by firing squad.
