Baden-Wurttemberg is a state in the southwest of Germany, east of the upper Rhine River. The state is the third-largest in Germany in both size and population, having a population of around 10,700,000 people. Stuttgart is the capital of the state, with Ludwigsburg, Karlsruhe, Heidelberg, Ulm, Baden-Baden, and Tubingen also being located in the state. Baden-Wurttemberg was named for the old German states of Wurttemberg and Baden, and their combination led to the state having a large area of 14,060 square miles.
