Babette's Supper Club bombing

The explosion of Babette's

The Babette's Supper Club bombing occurred in 1923 when Masseria crime family caporegime Gyp Rosetti had a popular Atlantic City, New Jersey entertainment venue bombed in the hopes of assassinating rival mob bosses Enoch Thompson, Lucky Luciano, and Arnold Rothstein. Rosetti had been told that Thompson was attending the club by Gillian Darmody, the mother of the late Jimmy Darmody, who had been murdered by Thompson in 1921. The bombing killed or wounded dozens of people, with the dead including Thompson's mistress Billie Kent. The bombing led to Thompson sanctioning an assassination attempt on Joe Masseria by Owen Sleater, although the attempt was thwarted.
