Azerbaijanis (or Azeris) are a Turkic-ethnic group native to the Caucasus region of West Asia. Azerbaijanis make up the majority of Azerbaijan and are a significant ethnic minority of Iran and Georgia, being the largest ethnic minority in Iran. Azerbaijanis also reside in Turkey and Russia. The Azeri language is apart of the Oghuz branch of Turkic languages making it highly related to Turkmen and Turkish.

Ancestry[]

Azerbaijani people are generally considered to be an admixture of Turkic, Iranian and Caucasian peoples, reflecting Azerbaijan's geographic position and history, which had significant populations of all three of these groups.
