Azarmidokht

Azarmidokht (593-1 September 631) was Empress of the Sassanid Empire from 630 to 631, succeeding Purandokht and preceding Yazdegerd III.

Biography[]

Azarmidokht was a daughter of Khosrau II by one of his 3,000 concubines, and she was a sister of Purandokht. In 630, her sister Purandokht was deposed as Empress of the Sassanid Empire by Piruz Khosrow in favor of Azarmidokht, who ruled over the empire for one year. However, Rostam Farrokhzad had Azarmidokht killed after she killed his father Farrukh Hormizd after she denied his hand in marriage. Her death let Yazdegerd III take the throne as the last emperor.
