Azad Kashmir is a self-governing administrative division of Pakistan, ruled from the provincial capital of Muzaffarabad. The region broke away from Jammu and Kashmir after the partition of India in 1947, as the state had a predominantly Muslim population. The region, along with the rest of Kashmir, is disputed between India and Pakistan, and it does not have any seats in the National Assembly of Pakistan. The region has a literacy rate of 72% and the highest school enrollment, despite the fact that most of its 4,567,982 inhabitants were farmers.
