
Al-Malik az-Zahir Ghazi (1172-1216) was the third son of Saladin, and was a legitimate heir to the Ayyubid Empire. In 1186, at the age of 15, he became Governor of Aleppo and Mosul, and sided with Al-Aziz and Al-Adil against his brother Al-Afdal in the succession war following his father's death. His lands included Syria and Mesopotamia.
