Awrib Merabi

Awrib Merabi (died 1954) was the owner of a Moorish cafe on Rue Randon in Algiers, Algeria at the time of the Algerian War. He was good friends with a French policeman that frequented the cafe at 5:00 PM every evening, and he informed on FLN members in the Casbah. In 1954, FLN leader Saadi Yacef decided to test Ali La Pointe by sending his nephew Little Omar with a mesage that instructed him to kill the policeman Mathieu Beauregard as he left the cafe. La Pointe was given a broken gun, and his attempt to kill the policeman failed on purpose, although it showed the FLN that he was ready to kill a policeman. He was probably assassinated by the FLN either later that year, or during the course of the war in Algiers in the following three years.
