Avlonyah Saffet (1662-) was the first appointed Ottoman governor of Egypt.
Biography[]
Saffet was born to a noble Ottoman family from Turkey, raised in the city of Konya. Saffet was made a general in 1701 and commander of the garrison of Cairo and the governor of Egypt. Although the Ottomans had been in possession of Egypt since 1519, Saffet became the first appointed governor (the Sultan was usually the Governor).
