Avgos Spearhand (died 874) was the Danish commander of the London garrison during the late 9th century AD and a "Warden of War" in the Order of the Ancients.
Biography[]
Avgos Spearhand, or "the Arrow", mastered projectiles at a young age. While his village was peaceful, his heroes were warriors. He ran away to go a-viking with the Great Heathen Army, and rose through its ranks, yet never high enough for his aspirations. He joined the Order of the Ancients on the offer of a power not even Odin could give.
Avgos became the commander of the Danish garrison in London under the Governor Tryggr, but he and Sister Frideswid had Tryggr assassinated on Vicelin's orders after Tryggr came close to discovering the Order's subversive activities in the city. Despite his secret role in the brutal murder, he was beloved by the people of London for uniting both Danes and Anglo-Saxons and for superficially enforcing the law; Reeve Stowe saw Avgos as a brother. However, Stowe's ally Eivor, seeking to eradicate the Order in the city, tracked the mysterious "Arrow" down by joining his archery competition at the Londinium Amphitheatre, which he won. As a reward, he was entitled to meet "the Arrow", and he met his henchman Hussa at the Imperial Arch, gave him the provided passphrase, and was told that he would meet "the Arrow" when he arrived to give a speech. Eivor found that "the Arrow" was Avgos when Avgos mounted the speaking platform to address the large crowds about Tryggr's murder, and Eivor was invited to stand behind him with his guards. As Avgos gave his speech, Eivor lunged forward with his hidden blade, stabbing Avgos. He then flung him from the stage with a strong blow from his axe, and he then jumped down onto the square and finished off a prone Avgos with his hidden blade, killing "the Arrow" and dealing a blow to the Order in London.
