The Autoritaristas were a reactionary faction of Paraguayan politics during the 19th and 20th centuries. They supported an authoritarian government with complete control over the economy and one receptive to nationalism; however, the party did not hold the traditional anti-multiculturalism views of other reactionary parties, favoring limited citizenship for ethnic minorities and immigrants. The party was at the height of its power under Francisco Solano Lopez, who led Paraguay into a war of annihilation during the Paraguayan War of 1864-1870. The party's support declined as the country recovered from the destructive war, and the Colorado Party of Paraguay would become the main right-wing party in the country after 1887.
