Autonomism

Autonomism is an anti-authoritarian form of Marxism which emerged in Italy in the 1960s from workerist communism. Autonomism supported people being directly involved with decisions affecting their everyday lives, and it sought to expand democracy and help individuals break free from political structures and behavior patterns imposed from outside. Post-Marxist and anarchist tendencies became significant after the failure of Italian far-left movements in the 1970s and the rise of Potere Operaio.
