The Australian Conservatives is a conservative political party in Australia, founded by Senator Cory Bernardi on 7 February 2017 after he left the Liberal Party of Australia due to disagreements with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. The party was first proposed after the 2016 federal election, during which 1,700,000 people decided to vote for parties further to the right than the Liberals. At its formation, Bernardi was its only senator, and he was inspired to split from the Liberal Party after meeting with Donald Trump's team members. On 26 April 2017, the Family First Party merged into the Australian Conservatives.
