
Aulus Otacilius Hilario (85 BC-21 BC) was a general of the Roman Republic.
Biography[]
Aulus Otacilius Hilario was born in Consentia (Cosenza, Italy) to a family of Roman patricians. Otacilius became a Roman general, and he was given command of a legion raised by Julius Caesar during the Gallic Wars in the 50s BC. In 56 BC, he took part in the campaigns on the Atlantic Ocean seaboard, winning the Battle of Ingena against the Abrincatui and other Gallic tribes. After this victory, Otacilius continud to fight the Gauls along the French coast in Namnetum and the rest of Brittany. After the Gallic Wars, he fought under his old commander Caesar against Pompey the Great, and after the Roman Civil Wars he retired to a villa in the Umbrian hills.
