
Augustin de Macarty (10 January 1774-16 October 1844) was the Democratic-Republican Mayor of New Orleans from 4 September 1815 to 13 May 1820, succeeding Nicholas Girod and preceding Louis Philippe de Roffignac.
Biography[]
Augustin de Macarty was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to an elite Creole family, and he served as Mayor from 1815 to 1820. He created the city's Board of Health in 1817 in response to a yellow fever outbreak, and he instituted house numbering that same year and created the city's first public waterworks in 1819.
