The August 2016 Quetta bombing occurred on 8 August 2016 when the Islamic State launched an attack on the Government Hospital in Quetta, Balochistan, Pakistan. A suicide bombing by Muawiya al-Khurasani was reported in the hospital, followed by gunfire. The attack targeted people who were watching over the mortally wounded Balochistan Bar Association president Bilal Anwar Kasi, and 70 were killed and 100+ wounded in the attack. Initially, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan splintergroup Jamaat-ul-Ahrar claimed responsibility, but IS released a picture of the bomber on 13 August.
